5 easy Halloween activities for kids

1. Give every pumpkin a different pattern

Put out a few crayons and invite your child to choose a pattern for each pumpkin: stripes, spots, zigzags or their own idea. Orange is optional. A purple pumpkin with green dots belongs in this patch just as much as an orange one.

2. Tell a tiny pumpkin story

Choose a pumpkin and give it a name. Ask, “Where is it going tonight?” or “What costume would it wear?” Your child can tell you the story while coloring. Write a sentence underneath, or let an older child add their own caption.

3. Play a color-clue game

Take turns choosing a clue: “Find something that could be yellow” or “Give one pumpkin two different colors.” Keep it playful, with no right answer to check. If you are working with several children, let each person suggest the next clue.

4. Make a little Halloween gallery

Print a page for each child, or color one together. Once the pages are finished, add the artist’s name and arrange them on a wall or table. Give the gallery a name, such as “The Friendly Pumpkin Patch.” Everyone can describe one detail they chose.

5. Design the next pumpkin

Use a blank sheet to draw another pumpkin for the patch. It might be tiny, sleepy, wearing glasses or shaped like a heart. Add a name and a background. This gives children a second activity without needing another download.
