The best Christmas party games need no setup, work for a 5-year-old and a grandparent at the same table, and end in laughter rather than arguments. These four tick every box.
1. Christmas bingo
Give everyone a card with 24 Christmas words (Santa, reindeer, mistletoe, cocoa) and a free centre square. One person draws words from a bowl and calls them out; the first to get five in a row shouts BINGO. Little ones can play in pairs with an adult.
2. Indoor scavenger hunt
Hand out a list of things to find around the house: something red, a candle, something that jingles, a pair of warm socks, a star. Set a timer for 10 minutes. It's perfect for burning off energy before dinner.
3. Would you rather
Take turns reading cards out loud: "Would you rather ride in Santa's sleigh or ride a reindeer?" Everyone answers and explains why. No winners, just great conversation.
4. Draw it!
One player draws a card (snowman, sleigh, gingerbread man) and draws it without words or letters while the others guess. Split into teams for a little competition.
Tips for a smooth game night
- Print bingo cards on card stock so they survive several rounds.
- Keep small prizes ready: candy canes, stickers or first pick of dessert.
- Rotate the caller so everyone gets a turn.
